Situation and medium-term forecast

Changeable weather conditions may reduce the pollen load!

The current week promises changeable weather conditions including longer periods with precipitation. Hence, the allergenic burden of grasses may be reduced to moderate values if the rainfalls persist over longer time periods. However, the allergenic burden will still stay present, especially in the lowlands and the mid-altitude regions. Grass pollen allergy sufferers may find better conditions in higher altitude regions, at and above the timber line and in dense deciduous forests.
Fescue grasses, couch grass, ryegrass, and golden oatgrass flower among the grasses. The fast and parallel flower of these and other grass species is unusual and characterizes this year´s grass pollen season. Grass pollen allergy sufferers should avoid flowering meadows because the local burden is higher there. The burden is lower where it was mowed. Cultivated rye flowers and may affect or burden additionally grass pollen allergy sufferers in proximity to fields in growing regions. Dock and plantain flower as well.

Green alder is flowering at higher elevated regions where it already causes moderate levels of allergenic burden. Pollen arrives in mostly a low amount also in the lowlands, but the main burden is found in mid- to high-altitude regions.

What else: The pollen spectrum contains also pollen from linden, wine, elderflower, conifers and nettle.

Fungal spores will occur now in moderate concentrations in the air in the lowlands.
