prevalent from Japan through Korea to China, in steppeland forests and dry forests on nutrient-rich soils, prefers warmth, usually frost-hardy, often cultivated

Appearance:

medium-sized, deciduous trees, leaves odd-pinnate, leaflets ovate, upper side of leaves shiny dark green, bottom side bluish and densely covered in hair, leaves similar to those of Robinia (but take on a brilliant yellow colour in autumn), creamy white flowers in long panicles, long, bare pods as fruit, the seeds are separated by constrictions in the pod
