originally in Europe, now in many temperate climates as a neophyte (North America, New Zealand, Australia)
Appearance:
evergreen perennial plants, root climber, leaves arranged alternately, bare, leathery leaf blade, juvenile leaves palmately lobed, older forms capable of flowering have ovate to rhombic leaves, upper surface of leaves shiny dark green, bottom side light, paniculate total inflorescence is semi-spherical to spherical, fruit in dense groups of berries
Allergenicity:
low, more likely to irritate skin (contact dermatitis), all parts of the plant are toxic
